The Tidbit

Mesón Sabika in Naperville is one of the most unique restaurants I’ve ever been to.  The restaurant is housed in a mansion that was built in 1847 and sits on a pristine four-acre estate. Equally as beautiful as the mansion is the food served within. I recently went for lunch with two friends, and five small plates (in addition to the starter bread) was enough to fill us all and everything was delectable.

We had Alcachofas con Cabrales (Artichoke hearts with arugula, walnuts and pomegranate reductions), Quesos con Pacanas (Goat cheese rolled in crushed roasted pecans, red wine poached pear and toast points, drizzled with honey), Tostada con Pato (Toast points spread with duck confit and topped with smoked duck breast, served with julienne apples), Rollito de Buey (Thinly sliced beef tenderloin wrapped around a mixture of dates, blue cheese, and pine nuts, layered with Portobello mushrooms and Piquillo peppers, and a pomegranate reduction), Datiles con Tocino (Roasted dates wrapped in bacon served with red bell pepper sauce).

The Quesos con Pacanas and Tostada con Pato were the standouts. They also have amazing sangria. The inside of the mansion is ornate and gorgeous, with a bar downstairs and tables within the rooms of the house. The outdoor patio is perfect for summertime dining, and the banquet hall and garden grounds are picturesque for weddings.
