Life has been all kinds of busy this year. All of a sudden, I woke up and it was fall. Which means I have to get prepared for next month’s Halloween party. Which means I need spooky recipes. Which means I turned to The Unofficial Hocus Pocus Cookbook.

Much like the Sanderson sisters, I only cook every hundred years or so. I figured I could use some practice before the big shindig. So I dusted off the cupboards and grabbed the ingredients and tools to whip up A Little Child…On Toast.

It’s basically an egg cooked in the center of toast. Something I’ve always been to kitchen-shy to attempt until now.

Here’s the easy rundown: you cut a hole (about 1-1.5 inches in diameter) in the center of sourdough bread. Then, butter both sides of the bread. Heat a skillet on medium heat and lightly oil (I used canola spray).

Place the bread on the skillet and crack and empty an egg into the hole of the bread. Cook until lower side is browned and then flip. Salt and pepper to taste.

Cook until second side is browned. Then plate and enjoy! (I had mine with Beyond breakfast sausages and a glass of OJ…two days in a row!)
